Biomutant is finally here and the reviews are piling up in a way that isn’t looking very promising for the newly launched title. While some reviews are positive, most end up centering around a variety of lacking threads within the game that end up making it tough for Biomutant to get out of the starting gate. I spent approximately three and half hours in the game, with two of those hours landing in a drawn out tutorial-esque intro that aims to establish the world, lore, backstory, and important game systems. Much of what this game aims to do either falls flat or doesn’t connect in a synergistic way with the over arching themes or game mechanics. I am trying to reserve judgment until I can put more time in outside of what feels like a very unnecessary slog at the beginning, but the content loop and combat are already not very high on the quality marks in my estimation.
